Getting started

SynQaiPro is, at its core, file synchronisation software: it compares two folders (“left” and “right”) and reconciles their contents according to rules you choose. Beyond that, the program contains a whole set of tools — duplicate finder, file organiser, batch renaming, image duplicates & photo series, the photo metadata editor ShotScope, the file reconstructor, secure deletion, data encryption (SynQaiCrypt) and the cloud connection to Dropbox. For a compact overview of what makes SynQaiPro special, see the introduction.

1.1 Starting the program

After you double-click the program icon, the start screen appears first. It loads the settings and prepares the sync engine. You will see the messages “Initialising…”, “Loading settings…”, “Preparing sync engine…” and finally “Ready” one after another.

1.2 Disclaimer on first start

On the very first start, SynQaiPro shows the disclaimer and terms of use. These have to be confirmed once.

  1. Read the text and scroll to the end — only then can the consent box be enabled (note: “Please scroll through the entire text to the end…”).
  2. Tick “I have read the disclaimer and accept the terms.”
  3. Click “✓ Accept and continue”.

1.3 Test mode, demo mode and licence

Without a valid licence, SynQaiPro starts in demo mode (also called “test mode”). The main functions are usable, but with limits. The demo dialog shows the hardware ID of this PC — it is required when buying a licence, because the licence is tied to the machine.

Your options in the demo dialog:

  • Continue in demo mode — carry on with the limits
  • Activate / Reactivate — install a licence (see chapter 17)
  • Exit — close the program

The main limits of test mode at a glance:

AreaLimit in test mode
Analysis / synchronisationThe number of files processed is limited (no limits in the full version)
Secure deletionThe 1×/3×/7× methods are disabled — files are only deleted normally
File reconstructorRestoring is blocked; scan results are still shown
Batch renamingThe final rename is blocked; the preview remains usable
File organiser / image similarityFinal deletion is blocked (files already moved to the recycle cache stay recoverable)
🧪 Test mode is visible
As long as no licence is active, the app marks the affected places with the symbol 🧪 Test mode to point out the respective limit.

1.4 Setting language and theme

SynQaiPro is available in 7 languages. On first start the program automatically adopts the language of your Windows system settings; if that language is not supported, it uses English. Use the Change language button to switch the display language yourself at any time.

The appearance likewise follows your system at first: use Switch theme: Dark / Light to change between the dark and the light design manually. Language and theme are saved and restored on the next start.

1.5 Closing the program

To quit, click “⏻ Exit”. Running actions are cancelled cleanly. Alternatively, close the window using the in the title bar.

ℹ️ Closing during a synchronisation
If the program is closed while a synchronisation is running, it waits cooperatively until the current operation has stopped safely, so that no file handles stay locked.
