Importing music

For MuSéa to show your music, it reads your music folders including their subfolders and stores the tracks it finds in a local database. The import runs in parallel across several cores and can be cancelled at any time. You find it under Settings → section IMPORT.

3.1 Adding and scanning folders

  1. Click Add folder and choose a music folder. The folder is remembered.
  2. Under File formats, check which file types are read in (see 3.2).
  3. Click Scan. MuSéa reads in all tracks and shows live progress, throughput and the active cores.

ℹ️ Only read in what is missing
A repeated scan updates the library; tracks already captured are kept. For a complete rebuild you can clear the library under Clear database (chapter 13).

3.2 File formats and Hi-Res filter

The checkboxes under File formats determine which extensions the scan considers: FLAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, AIFF, WMA and DSD (DSF/DFF). With Hi-Res only (≥ 24 bit / ≥ 88.2 kHz) you limit the import to genuine high-res files (≥ 24 bit / ≥ 88.2 kHz).

DSD files are output bit-exact to a suitable DAC via DoP (DSD over PCM). The device setting required for this is described in chapter 11.5.

3.3 Concurrency

Under Concurrency you decide how many processor cores read at the same time: All cores, Half or Serial (1 core). More cores = faster import; serial spares a slow storage medium.

3.4 Assigning artist covers automatically

Cover scan searches the artist subfolders of your source folders for an image file named like the artist and assigns it as the cover of the artist tile. This way even artists without an embedded image get a face.

3.5 Database location

By default MuSéa stores library.db and thumbs.db in the application-data folder. Via Change folder… you choose a different location (e.g. a fast SSD). The change takes effect on the next start; the database files are then moved there.
