Audio devices & bit-perfect

Under Settings → section AUDIO DEVICES you determine how MuSéa outputs to your DAC or sound card. This is where it is decided whether playback is really bit-perfect.

12.1 Driver and mode

  • DriverWASAPI or ASIO (the device’s own driver path).
  • ModeShared (system mixer) or Exclusive (bit-perfect) (bit-perfect). For unaltered playback choose exclusive mode.
  • Refresh — refresh the device list after connecting a DAC.

12.2 Buffer size

Small = low latency, large = more stable. With ASIO, Automatic (driver) is additionally available, which takes over the size set in the driver panel.

12.3 Upsampling

Upsampling upsamples the output exactly to a higher rate (never down). The list shows only rates above the current track rate that the device supports. Effective only in exclusive mode — in shared mode the Windows mixer determines the rate. Off (native) = native rate / bit-perfect.

12.4 Warm-up time

Device warm-up time plays a brief silence before the first track (after app start or a format/device change) — 0.5 s, 1 s or 2 s. This prevents softly swallowed track beginnings, because the DAC or receiver can lock in before the music starts.

12.5 DSD via DoP

⚠️ Only enable with a DoP-capable DAC
Only enable DSD playback (DoP) if your DAC supports DoP — otherwise you hear noise instead of music. DSD/DoP over ASIO is not supported; choose a WASAPI device for it.
