Getting started
MergeQaiPro places two versions of a file side by side and shows every deviation in colour — line by line, and within a line even character by character. Whatever you see can be moved from one side to the other with a single click. Besides text, the program also compares folders, images and any file byte by byte; for merges from two directions there is the three-way comparison.
1.1 Starting the program
At start-up the splash screen appears briefly with the words MergeQaiPro, the subtitle “File and folder comparison” and the message “Loading…”. The main window then opens with the start page.
1.2 The start page: three ways in
As long as no comparison is open, the window shows “Welcome to MergeQaiPro” and three tiles below it. Each leads into a different kind of comparison:
| Tile | What for | Chapter |
|---|---|---|
| 📄↔📄 Compare two files | Fine-grained differences in lines and characters, with filters for pure formatting | 3–6 |
| 📁↔📁 Compare two folders | List changed files and jump straight into the file differ by double-clicking | 8 |
| 📄↔📄↔📄 Compare three files | Left · base · right — with detection of changes and conflicts | 7 |
1.3 Choosing the files
For a file comparison MergeQaiPro asks for both sides in turn: “Choose first file” and “Choose second file”. For a folder comparison the prompts are “Choose first folder” and “Choose second folder”; for a three-way comparison “Choose base file” is added.
1.4 Language and appearance
On the right of the header bar sit two small buttons: one for the appearance (dark / light) and one for the language. MergeQaiPro speaks eight languages — German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Chinese. Both take effect immediately and are remembered for the next start; the shortcuts are Ctrl+T and Ctrl+L.
